Hustle is a term I used to love.

Especially in the days of working in corporate and the early days of my business.

I thought I thrived with the excitement and pressure. But after experiencing burnout in 2012 I started to get curious about learning how to manage my energy and my mindset better.

A couple of years later I was taken to the hospital thinking something was wrong with me, only to be told it was a panic attack. I could not believe it!!!!… Needless to say, my exploration of how to find true work/life balance became more important than ever.

Here’s the problem.

When things feel like they’re not going quite right, you’re off track or just out of reach of your goals – the natural response is to do more.

We’ve been taught for eons to work harder, work longer, work more.

And if the results don’t come, what’s the solution?

Work harder, work longer, work more. Rinse and repeat.

Being the last person to leave the office or wearing ‘busy’ as a badge of honour can be a tough habit to break.

It’s so damn easy to fall into the trap… once this project is completed, I’ll go back to taking lunch breaks. Once this peak season is over, I’ll start leaving work on time.

But here’s the thing, there’s always something.

A better approach is to find a different way of working that takes into account peak seasons, big projects or an influx of new clients (yay!).

And this is where most business owners get stuck.

Because we only know what we know. PLUS we try to overcomplicate things.

It’s now been 10 years since I had my first real experience with burnout. And what I know to be true today is there’s a better way. It’s not complicated. But it does require learning how to re-prioritise.

Here it is! Your better way.

There are 3 main areas of business planning and strategy for you to work on and one of these is often overlooked. Let me break it down for you.

  1. How are you growing your business? I challenge you to look beyond just making more sales.

This area is commonly considered critical to business owners

  1. How are you managing your money when it comes in the door? I challenge you to consider if you are creating wealth, not just producing an income.

This area is considered somewhat critical to business owners

  1. Are you prioritising life just as much as points 1 and 2? This is the clincher.

This is often a big gap for business owners. They put themselves last and don’t prioritise their joy, health and wellbeing (and yes JOY is an important part of your health and wellbeing!).

It’s only when all three are in play together that the magic can happen. There will certainly be ebbs and flows and times where one area has more attention than others. As long as there’s a focus on all three in your 90-day, 6-month and 12-month goals… you’ll be okay. I’d say you’ll even thrive in business.

So in summary, so that you can thrive in business, make sure you prioritise life just as much as business growth and building wealth.

The best way to do this is to include it in your business strategy. If you need a hand with this, or want to uncover the #1 thing that’s holding you back right now, book a free 20 min clarity call with me here.
